Today our nation will celebrate the 90th birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This national holiday honors the legacy of the Baptist minister and civil rights leader whose dream for our nation was to have all people living the promise of the Founding Fathers “that all men are created equal”.
There is so much that has been written about Dr. King’s life and death, but I hope we can take some time to refresh ourselves with his own words, his great faith, and recommit ourselves to the vision of his dream for our nation. I was in elementary school when Dr. King was killed. I know that many people today may never have heard his powerful call to strive for justice for all people. I believe it is important to ensure that Dr. King’s words are never relegated to history books. Rather, that they live in our hearts and call us to see each other through the lens of dignity, to work for peace and justice and to never be satisfied until it is achieved for all people.
