St. Thérèse never set foot on the mission field, yet she is honored as co-patroness of the missions alongside St. Francis Xavier. Her daily acts of love, sacrifice, and prayer for missionaries showed us that the heart of mission is not only in going abroad but also in living each moment with great love for God and neighbor.
On October 1, the Church celebrates the Feast of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, known lovingly as the Little Flower. Though she lived a short and hidden life as a Carmelite nun, Thérèse’s love for Christ and her “little way” of holiness made her a Doctor of the Church and the Patroness of Mission.
For Mission Doctors, St. Thérèse is a powerful companion on the journey. Her example reminds us that even in the midst of great challenges—whether in a rural clinic, a crowded hospital ward, or in the simplicity of daily life—it is faithfulness in the “little things” that allows God’s healing love to shine through.
On this feast day, we ask St. Thérèse to intercede for all who serve with Mission Doctors Association, for those discerning a call to mission, and for our donors and friends whose prayers and support make this work possible.
Prayer on the Feast of St. Thérèse of Lisieux
Loving God,
You blessed St. Thérèse of Lisieux with the gift of great love lived in simple ways.
Through her intercession, grant us the grace to follow her “little way,”
trusting in Your mercy and offering each day in service of Your kingdom.
We pray especially for all Mission Doctors serving around the world,
that they may be strengthened in their work of healing.
Bless those who support them with prayer and sacrifice,
and inspire new hearts to respond to the call of mission.
St. Thérèse, Little Flower of Jesus,
pray for us and for the missions of the Church.
Amen.
Thank you to our Mission Doctors’ community—your prayers and generosity help carry forward the spirit of St. Thérèse in bringing hope and healing to those most in need.
