Approximately 77 million people have become infected with HIV since the 
start of the epidemic.
Today, there are approximately 36.9 million people currently living with HIV, and tens of millions of people have died of AIDS-related causes since the beginning of the epidemic.
While these are staggering numbers, there are some reasons for optimism.
·        940,000 people died of AIDS in 2017, a 33% decrease from 1.4 million in 2010
·         There have been significant declines in new infections since the mid-1990s, yet there were still about 1.8 million new infections last year or about 5,000 new infections per day
Yet, many people living with HIV or at risk for HIV infection do not have access to prevention, treatment, and care, and there is still no cure.
For Mission Doctors and supporters like you, World AIDS Day is about more than numbers. It is about individual patients and their families.
It is about working with our partners in Mission to create sustainable health care.

Each patient is just one of the millions of men, women, and children living with HIV, fighting for their lives.
