Mission Doctors Association

Frightened, uncertain, waiting, the disciples gathered in that upper room.

Suddenly filled with the Gift they were promised, something they could not contain.  They spilled out into the streets. They crossed borders. They spoke languages not their own. They had been sent.

Pentecost is the feast of being sent.

At Mission Doctors Association, we see the Holy Spirit at work every time a doctor says yes to this call.
  • Yes to leaving a comfortable practice in California.
  • Yes to a surgical ward in Sudan that sees patients, victims of a war they do not fight.
  • Yes to small clinics in rural Guatemala, treating the indigenous  communities who would otherwise go untreated.
In the Amazon of Peru, caring for patients who have traveled in a dugout canoe for more than 12 hours, or  the mountains of northern Tanzania,  where the presence of a skilled, faithful doctor can change  everything.
This is what this service looks like in action. It may not be a dramatic conversion story, but always a Spirit-led yes.

Pentecost reminds us that the Church was never meant to stay in the upper room. The gifts we are given — our training, our talents, our treasure — are not ours to hold. They are meant to be poured out.

Our Mission Doctors and healthcare professionals understand this in a way that humbles us. They go. And in going, they bring healing, dignity, and the love of Christ to some of the world’s most underserved communities.

But the sending doesn’t happen without the wider Church. Every prayer, every gift, every person who shares our mission is part of what makes it possible for a doctor to board that plane.

This Pentecost, we invite you to reflect on your own yes. How is the Spirit calling you to give your gifts away?

Please pray for our mission doctors and healthcare professionals serving across Africa and Latin America. And if you feel called to support their work — or to go yourself — we’d love to hear from you.
