Become a Mission Doctor

God has given you a remarkable gift. Is he asking you to share it in a new way?

You spent years in training. You have built a career of healing. And yet, perhaps there is a voice within you — quiet but persistent — asking is there more I could do?

There is.

Every day, communities around the world wait for a doctor who will come. Children with conditions that are entirely treatable. Pregnant women who have never had an ultrasound. Patients losing their sight to glaucoma that could be treated. People who need exactly what you have spent your life learning to do.

Mission Doctors Association has been answering that call for over 65 years — recruiting, preparing, sending, and supporting Catholic healthcare professionals who are willing to say yes.

What Does It Mean to Serve?

Mission Doctors serve in long-term (3 years) and short-term (1-3 months) assignments in underserved communities across Africa and Latin America. You bring your medical expertise. We walk with you every step of the way.

From formation and spiritual preparation to logistical support and ongoing care for you and your family, Mission Doctors Association ensures that you are never alone in your mission.

Who Is Called?

You don’t have to have it all figured out. You simply have to be open.

Mission Doctors are Catholic doctors, dentists, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with an active US medical license, from all specialties and stages of career. They are young doctors just beginning and retiring physicians with decades of experience. They are single and married, with and without children. What they share is a Catholic faith, an active, US medical credential, and a willingness to listen for God’s call — and follow it.

As one Mission Doctor put it: “Nothing makes me happier or gives me more purpose than getting up each day with the chance to do something real for God.”

What You Will Find

Those who have served tell us that what they found in the mission field transformed them as much as they transformed the communities they served.

You will encounter faith that humbles you. Resilience that inspires you. Patients whose courage and gratitude will stay with you for the rest of your life.

You will also find purpose — the deep, clarifying sense that you are exactly where God intended you to be, doing exactly what He created you to do.

Take the First Step

You don’t have to say yes today. You simply have to be willing to ask the question.

Reach out to us. Tell us where you are in your discernment. We would be honored to walk with you.

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!'” — Isaiah 6:8
