“Do not be afraid. Open wide the doors to Christ.” Throughout his papacy, St. John Paul II called the Church to a renewed commitment to mission. He believed deeply that every Christian is invited to share in the Church’s missionary spirit, whether through prayer, support, or service on the ground.
On October 22, the Church celebrates the feast of Pope John Paul II—a saint whose life and witness continue to inspire Catholics around the world to bring the light of Christ into every corner of the globe.
His tireless advocacy for the dignity of every human person and his outreach to people in every nation reflect the very heart of our mission: to bring compassionate, Catholic healthcare to communities most in need.
“The Church imposes nothing; she only proposes, like a lover to the beloved.”
— St. John Paul II
His deep love for humanity was expressed not only in his words but also in his travels. He visited more than 120 countries, meeting people of every background, culture, and faith—always emphasizing solidarity, mercy, and the universal call to holiness.
As Mission Doctors serve in clinics, hospitals, and rural communities around the world, they too bear witness to this universal call: to bring healing, hope, and Christ’s love to those who are suffering.
On this feast day, we ask for St. John Paul II’s intercession for all Mission Doctors and their families, for those discerning the call to serve, and for the generous donors and friends who make this mission possible.
A Prayer on the Feast of St. John Paul II
Loving God,
You raised up St. John Paul II to be a shepherd after Your own heart.
Through his example and intercession,
fill us with courage to follow where You call,
to bring Your healing love to those in need,
and to live our faith with joy and boldness.
Bless all Mission Doctors, their patients, and the communities they serve.
May we, like St. John Paul II, proclaim with our lives:
“Be not afraid.”
Amen.
As we honor St. John Paul II today, may we be inspired by his unwavering faith and missionary zeal to continue bringing Christ’s healing presence to the world.
St. John Paul II, pray for us.
