A new year begins and we Catholics also begin the year with the Feast of the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.
Could there be a better way to start a year?
Last year, Pope Francis said of this special day “To celebrate Mary as Mother of God and our mother at the beginning of the new year means recalling a certainty that will accompany our days: we are a people with a Mother; we are not orphans.”
Mary, as mother, who only a week ago we see in the stable bringing to life the incarnation of God with her yes, is mother to God and to us his adopted daughter sand sons. We too have Mary as a mother to love, guide and care for us.
This year ahead, let us turn to Mary to see a heart filled to overflowing with love for all people everywhere.
May her example of faith and love inspire all our actions!
May we say ‘yes’ when God is inviting us to service, as she did.
May we see in others the truth that they too are people with a Mother, indeed our sisters and brothers.
Happy 2018!
