The Fourth Sunday of Advent with Christmas only a day away. Have we been able to spend some time to wake up to God around us? Have we reflected on the reason for this joyful season? Have we reflected on Christ’s birth as a vulnerable baby? So much to reflect upon at such a busy time of year! But the key is not to feel like this is one more task but find Christ’s love and joy in our life, preparations and family.
Today’s Gospel reading is Luke’s story of the Annunciation, when the Angel Gabriel tells Mary that she has been chosen to be the mother of the Christ. An annunciation of mystery and joy but one for which Mary had to agree; this meant for a young Jewish girl, overcoming fear, anxiety and probably a feeling of smallness to trust in God. Mary said ‘Yes’ to God in her life trusting even when she could not understand. During this last Sunday of Advent where is God calling us to say YES… could it be to forgive someone who hurt us? Perhaps, it is to reach out and visit a homebound relative? Maybe, an impulse to give some food or time to helping the poor? Saying Yes, regardless of how small, allows for God to further incarnate mercy and love in our world today. Say YES! Have a blessed Christmas and God give you peace and joy.
AS you say Yes to God in small ways please say YES to Mission Doctors whose YES allows them to serve God’s poor; prayers and financial support unite yourself to the doctor’s YES.
