Mission Doctors Association

His story is one of profound transformation: from tax collector—an occupation often viewed with suspicion in his time—to a follower of Christ who dedicated his life to proclaiming the Good News.

On September 21, the Church celebrates the Feast of St. Matthew, the Apostle and Evangelist.

Matthew reminds us that God calls each of us where we are. Jesus saw not just who Matthew was in that moment, but who he could become when he opened his life to grace. That same invitation extends to us today—to step away from comfort or hesitation, and to follow Christ with trust.

For Mission Doctors, this feast is especially meaningful. Like Matthew, our doctors hear a call that draws them into something greater than themselves. They leave behind the familiar and bring their gifts of healing to serve brothers and sisters in need, often in places where medical care is scarce. Their “yes” is a reflection of Matthew’s own response to Christ: immediate, wholehearted, and life-changing.

As we honor St. Matthew, we are inspired by his courage to embrace a new path and by the example of Mission Doctors who do the same. Together, they remind us that discipleship means seeing with the eyes of faith and stepping forward in love, wherever Christ may lead.

On this feast, let us pray for the grace to answer our own call with generosity—and let us give thanks for the Mission Doctors who live this call each day, bringing healing and hope in Christ’s name.

Thank you for being part of this mission through your prayers and support. You make it possible for Mission Doctors to say “yes,” just as Matthew did.
