2010 Catholic D octor of the Year
In October of 2010, Mission Doctors Association will be honoring an outstanding Catholic doctor following the annual Archdiocese of Los Angeles White Mass.
The 2009 recipient of the Catholic Doctor of the Year award, Dr. Michael Fitzgerald of New York, was honored for the faith-filled care he provides, his selfless service at a local free clinic for the uninsured, and his continued work at a Catholic hospital in northern Haiti. Catholic press and national Catholic News services, among others, covered this award and honoree.
Catholic doctors face many challenges today as they work to meet the needs of their patients in the context of their own faith and calling.
Many Catholic doctors go well beyond the roll and responsibilities of their profession, offering care that truly reflects the love of God. For some this is obvious in their own practice, for others this takes the form of volunteering in their community or mission work that may be domestic or international. Their exemplary actions bear witness to the highest values of the Catholic doctor.
We will recognize a Catholic doctor for bearing witness to these higher values, and we invite you to submit the name(s) of qualified doctors for consideration.
For 50 years, Mission Doctors Association has supported Catholic doctors and their families who have responded to their faith and calling to serve at mission hospitals and clinics. We recognize that many respond to their faith through service in their own communities as well. We believe honoring an individual who upholds these values also increases the awareness of the important role faith plays for many medical professionals.
